Pennsylvania’s hidden wine gem
The Lake Erie region has cool breezes and sandy soils which create an ideal growing condition for wine grapes. The moderate climate in the spring and fall mirrors some wine regions in Germany, and some of the first ones produced here were Rieslings. Concord grapes were also traditionally grown, although the region has moved in recent years to develop European vinifera varietals as it has gained respect as an American Viticultural Area (AVA).
