The Walla Walla Valley is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located within Washington State and extending partly into the northeastern corner of Oregon. The wine region is part of the larger Columbia Valley AVA.
Walla Walla means “many waters” and the many waters flowing down from the Blue Mountains provide needed irrigation for this rich agricultural area with minimal rainfall, where in addition to over 1,600 acres of vineyards there are numerous fruit orchards and wheat fields. In the heart of the Walla Walla wine region is downtown Walla Walla, a destination in itself with fine restaurants, charming shops and a surprisingly robust arts scene.
